Psychotherapy Groups

The practice offers group psychotherapy to adults and adolescents:

Women Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

The trauma from child sexual abuse often endures into adulthood and is manifested in emotional, psychological, and interpersonal difficulties. The experiences embody meanings about one's self that reinforces isolation and contributes to an identity ridden with shame and self-blame.

The therapy relationship helps facilitate recognition and understanding of the impact of trauma in women's lives. In group, survivors find a common voice which conveys acceptance and emphasizes women's power to heal. The group facilitates a safe environment where women can feel heard, supported, and empowered in their journey towards healing.

Women's Sexual Assault Survivors Group

This group offers support to adult survivors of sexual assault. The experience of sexual assault can leave survivors feeling a variety of overwhelming and complex emotions including confusion, hopelessness, insecurity, shame, anger and loss. The group will allow participants to explore these emotions along with other crucial components to healing such as the reactions of family and friends, community response or reinforcement and prior trauma. The group will provide participants the opportunity to connect with other survivors in their efforts to heal the wounds of sexual trauma and to safely explore the emotional, spiritual and physical impact of sexual assault.

Grief Support Group

This group offers adults struggling with loss the opportunity to heal, grow and find meaning in their grief. The group will also assist participants in gaining awareness of the impact of grief and how to restore a sense of mind, body and spirit after loss.

The group provides a safe place for those who have lost someone in their lives to get support, validation and acceptance with their range of grief reactions. The experience of loss can often feel very isolating. The group process can help those who are grieving feel a sense of connection to others through the healing process.

Eating Disorder Groups

The group provides a safe environment to address issues underlying eating disorders. Participants in the group have been primarily diagnosed with Bulimia or Anorexia. Collaborative work with the participant and family members is incorporated into the treatment. Ongoing medical assessments are also effective aspects of maintaining recovery.

Self-Injury Group

The impact of trauma is often manifested in self-injurious behavior. "Cutting" becomes a way individuals come to feel emotions and attach or detach from traumatic materials. It is also a way to get rid of the painful aspects of the self. This group provides a supportive environment where participants begin to understand their self-injurious behavior and develop healthier ways of coping. Ongoing medical assessments can also be an effective aspect of maintaining recovery.

Domestic Abuse Survivors Group

Women survivors of domestic abuse find a common voice recognizing the empowered decision to end the cycle of abuse. The group facilitates a safe and trusting environment for survivors to heal, empathically understand themselves and address the patterns that maintained the abusive relationship.

Divorce Recovery Group

Recovery from divorce is often arduous. The recovery process involves ongoing reflection of its impact on different aspects of the individual's life. The group allows for an empathic and supportive environment where individuals can begin to recognize a new journey in life.

Women's Group

The group addresses issues unique to women's lives. Depression, anxiety and life stressors including familial/relational problems, careers and motherhood are some issues addressed in the group. Women share their insights, provide support, and empower each other in their growth and healing.

Connections for Women

This group deals with relationship/marriage issues due to a partner's substance abuse. This is an excellent place to meet and connect with other women in similar situations.
