Our Philosophy

Beginning at the earliest age, it is of human nature to seek relationships. It is through early relationships that one begins to have the ability to self-soothe and provide nurture to the self. The development of one's core self reflects the influence of familial as well as the larger environmental context.

The experience of trauma becomes the source of maladaptive mechanisms which are tools for surviving. These mechanisms are then manifested through an array of physical, psychological and emotional difficulties in later life. These become hindrances in developing a healthy relationship with one's self and others.

The development of trust in the therapy relationship facilitates an increasing self-awareness, recognition of choices and an understanding of the meaning and impact of trauma in life. The empowering as well as nurturing impact of the therapy relationship is at the core of the healing process.
